On paper, the Life Fitness X5 Cross Trainer doesn't appear to offer much more than the Life Fitness X3 Cross Trainer, but it's simply not true. Importantly, the Life Fitness X5 Cross Trainer features the SelectStride technology which allows you to customise your stride length for both comfort and goal specific training, making the Life Fitness X5 one of the most versatile elliptical trainers available. Also, the base unit is "beefed up" with longer lasting wear parts and a tougher base unit being used, this is reflected in the machine weight (113kg, compared to 93kg) and suggested user capacity (158kg, compared to 135kg). As with the rest of the Life Fitness range, both a basic and advanced (interactive) console are offered for the same base unit. Despite the additional price of the advanced console, I (Matt) would purchase the advanced option, as the extra workout programmes (in particular heart rate options) are welcome.
