International Olympic 7ft (650kg) Bar

International Olympic 7ft Bar (650kg Test)
MATT'S UPDATE 28/1/11: It should be noted that, since writing the rave review below, the quality of the International 7ft Olympic Bars produced by York Barbell are not what they used to be. It's still a decent bar, but not so much better than a "normal" olympic bar to warrant the £200 price tag. For most gyms, it'll probably be the best bar of choice for both quality and budget. However, for the serious weight training gym, or serious weight trainer at home, invest in a Texas Olympic Bar.
MATT'S ORIGINAL REVIEW Sept '09: For all intents and purposes, the same bar as the 350kg test International Olympic 7ft Bar. Made from the same grade of steel, but being slightly thicker (32mm) and, therefore, with a higher loading capacity of 650kg. Personally (Matt writing), at 5' 8" tall (& related hand size) a 32mm grip on a bar is too big to comfortably perform a heavy deadlift without gripping assistance, such as lifting straps. Subsequently, I would opt for the 350kg test (30mm) International Olympic 7ft Bar. Something to note, the hard chrome finish and superior knurling of the International Bars proves far more grip-able than the typical cheaply chromed greasy olympic bars.
If you are purhcasing this higher rated capacity bar for serious powerlifting and feel that the grip diameter may be a hindrance, I would suggest purchasing the regulation 29mm thick Power Bar. Please be aware that the 680kg test Power Bar is far more expensive, please contact us for details.
