PowerBlock Pro EXP Stage 1 (5-50lb) Dumbbells (pair)

The PowerBlock EXP dumbbells are an excellent choice of adjustable dumbbell for the home or light commercial gym. This starting stage was formerly known as the Powerblock U90 stage 1 but when PowerBlock re-designed the range a couple of years ago it changed it's name to the Pro EXP range. New colours (more black less contrast between components), more of a streamlined design and all in all a much more professional look to the dumbbells than the original U90 design.

Still made with tough urethane coated steel plates which virtually eliminates any plate rattle that might be present on the cheaper PowerBlock Sport range and now with a colour matched black stage 1 handle the real beauty of the Pro EXP dumbbells is the affordabillity that comes with the option of being able to start with this stage 1 set which goes up to around 22.5Kg per dumbbell and add-on the stage 2 and stage 3 kits at strength or circumstances dictate.

Plenty of pro's for these dumbells but how do they stack up against the Pro 90's and what are the key differences?
Well, these Pro EXP dumbbells use a 2.5lb "adder weight" to make up the intermediate increments between plate selections whereas the PowerBlock Pro 90s have 2 different handles, one weighting 2.5kg and one weighing 5Kg

The PowerBlock EXP Dumbbells are my preferred option of the range. Basically, they are near identical to the Pro 50's, but can also be upgraded to 70lb (with Stage 2) or up to 90lb per dumbell (with Stage 2 + Stage 3), therefore, offering the biggest home/light-commercial use adjustable dumbell on the market.
