Things you will want to consider if you are purchasing your Olympic weight plates for a domestic environment.

Rubber Bumper plates are now the staple of most training facilities worldwide. Once only found in hard core Bodybuilding gyms and Powerlifting haunts  they are now the training plate of choice for Cross Fit and Functional training facilities across the globe.

These Solid rubber plates will last a decade or more in full commercial use as long as they are used on a suitable rubber flooring surface. If purchasing for a home gym or personal training studio it's highly unlikely you will ever have to replace your rubber training plates. They can be used outside on a suitable surface but should, as with all gym equipment, be stored indoors away from moisture as central to the plate is a metal hub which would rust if exposed to outside elements.

Rubber training plates are favoured for use in our home gym as they are much quieter in use than metal or cast iron plates. If your home gym is within earshot of other members of the household when in use the clanking of a poor quality bar and cast iron wights will not go un-noticed.  Using rubber training plates with a well made Olympic bar on suitable rubber flooring surface will not make your training session silent but will aid noise dampening.

Rubber training plates take up more room on a bar than traditional cast plates or steel training plates. If you are or intend to be superhuman strong they may not be for you.

Note: Like all rubber plates York Solid Rubber Bumper Plates have a distinct smell of rubber due to manufacturing process however the smell will reduce over time.
